Continued Creative Development

In this blog I will be evaluating some changes i have made in my choreography as well as what I would like to improve on in the time I have left before it is assessed. In the third section, I have changed the dynamics of some movements to show a subtle shift from the energetic fluidity I've been portraying to the more dramatic sharpness that is to come with the fourth section. This mainly comes in the form of performing occasional movements sharply on the beat; this is particularly prominent in the triplet phrase featured near the end of the section. Creative Development: A Reflection On My Process So Far

    Embarking on this choreography project, I wanted to keep a few things in mind as I had some experience with choreography from helping create our foundation group piece last year. One of the main downfalls that I felt I wanted to improve on from that experience was not relying so heavily on improvising to materialize choreography. Additionally, I also want to work towards not being so afraid to try things out of my comfort zone while attempting to be more organized by leaving enough time to therapy rehearse and finalize the piece instead of continuously changing things.  In the beginning: We spent the first few scissions learning more about different choreographers and their choreographic devices. Crystal Pite, The Revisor

In this blog post, I will be critiquing the trailer of Crystal Pite and  Jonathon Young's "The Revisor". After watching the trailer initially, the main thing that stood out to me was the intense and emotional atmosphere created by both the performers and Owen Belton's composition. Through the extract, dancers were almost constantly portraying extremes or overexaggerated emotions on their faces, whether it be anger, joy, grief or jealousy.  As the trailer progressed, I got the impression the piece may have an underlying theme of war or conflict in a historical setting. I came to this conclusion as quite a few dancers are wearing military uniforms or period costumes. In contrast, there were some dancers in modern contemporary costumes.  In regards to props, Pite has incorporated many furniture pieces such as a couch, desk, candles and, free-standing doors.
